Research concludes that forward head posture has a negative impact on the function of the body

A 2020 systematic review (1) has supported our long held belief that forward head posture has a negative impact on the function of the human body. This is the first review of its kind.

As opposed to a singular study, a systematic review is an analysis of multiple studies about a common topic, in this case, how forward head posture impacts our body. In this instance they used 16 studies all dated after 2013.

In a nutshell, the studies used common methods of analysing the position of the head in comparison to the shoulder. Clients of ours will note this is something regularly discussed, observed and measured in our practice. Their results have proven the position of the head has a significant effect on the human body.

They concluded that forward head posture negatively effects muscle activity, proprioception, breathing patterns, and neck pain.

The collection of studies showed a range of poor health impacts related to forward head posture. Muscle tightness and dysfunction (not only in the neck), poor balance, poor coordination, disrupted breathing patterns and neck pain were all observed.

It is our personal belief that this is the tip of the iceberg when correlating poor posture with negative health outcomes. We expect much more to follow over the next few years.

For the hundreds of clients of ours who have observed the consistent postural improvements we make in our practice, we hope these studies help you understand why you feel so different after receiving ABC™. If you have yet to experience care in our practice, we hope this provides some encouragement to do so.
